Watertown Moves

About Watertown Moves

Watertown Moves encompasses our active living programs including Watertown Walks, cycling programs, community snowshoeing and kayaking, as well as specialty guided walking tours. Program partners include the Senior Center, Recreation, and the Bike and Pedestrian Committee.

According to the CDC, regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. The general recommendation is to engage in 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, each week. Be sure to check with your physician about your personal needs if you have any health condition.

Active living requires access to a safe space in a community to engage in physical activity on a daily basis.

Watertown has many walking and biking paths to utilize for outdoor activity, including the recently improved Charles River pathways and DCR’s new Waterfront Park and Braille Trail along Charles River Road, east of Watertown Square. Going west, the Charles River pathway extends into Waltham, offering additional scenic views to explore and enjoy.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your activity is a good way to get started and stay motivated. Some people prefer printed worksheets, while others like using the latest smart phone app. Try different tracking types to find what works best for you!

If tracking your activity isn’t for you, setting goals might be a better motivator; for example, “I will walk 10 miles this week,” or “I will bike 500 miles this summer.”
